Before venturing to the beaches, one of the first sights visitors should check out is the Art Deco district located between the Atlantic Ocean and Lenox Court. Miami Beach has the largest collection of Art Deco architecture, which is displayed on numerous apartments, hotels, and other buildings that were built between 1923 and 1943, so be sure to take a stroll or a bike ride past these colorful buildings. This distinct style is represented by the use of materials such as stainless steel, aluminum, inlaid wood, and lacquer and styles such as stepped forms, zigzags, and dramatic curves.
When most individuals think of Miami Beach, the first thing that probably comes to mind is the popular South Beach (SoBe) area of the city that was made famous by the show "Miami Vice." South Beach is the prime entertainment area of Miami Beach with its hundreds of restaurants, nightclubs, and oceanfront hotels. Art Deco District Tours
Guided walking tours ($20 Adults - $15 Seniors and Students) of the Art Deco Historic
District are offered every Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday at 10:30 a.m. and Thursday
at 6:30 p.m. Self-guided tours ($15 Adults - $10 Seniors and Students) are available daily
from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. with audio in English, Spanish,
French, German and Portuguese. Location: MDPL Art Deco Welcome Center
